Do you pay attention to the material used when purchasing slippers? Have you been troubled by the odor of your slippers during use? Or are the slippers too slippery or creaking after encountering water? This article will help you clarify your doubts.

Material of slippers

PVC

Most slippers on the market are made of PVC material, which stands for Polyvinyl Chloride in English. The characteristics of PCV material slippers are softness, good elasticity, comfortable wearing feeling, and also very affordable. But PCV also has its drawbacks: due to material issues, it may emit a foul odor after being stored for a long time or immersed in water. Some may have added other ingredients for the sake of affordability, resulting in a relatively strong odor when purchased. If the cleaning is not done properly, fungi, sweat, and other substances on the feet will ferment inside the slippers, making the odor even more unbearable. But once the cleaning is done properly, there's usually nothing wrong.

EVA

Another commonly used material is EVA, which stands for ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer. Compared to PVC slippers, EVA slippers are more lightweight and sturdy, mainly wear-resistant and non slip. They may not be as soft as PVC slippers, but they are also very comfortable. Recommend purchasing this material.

Rubber material

TPR material, abbreviated as Thermo Plastic Rubber material in English. Rubber slippers may be softer than PVC slippers, but their wear resistance may be slightly inferior, and generally, their anti slip performance is not very high.

flax

Another possibility that few people have heard of is linen slippers, made from plant fibers. In summer, linen slippers are definitely the first choice: they have good breathability, sweat absorption, fast heat dissipation, and other characteristics. For people whose feet are prone to sweating, athlete's foot, foot odor, and fungi, it is simply a blessing. But linen slippers are not without their drawbacks: they have poor water resistance and are prone to damage when exposed to water for a long time.

For people with skin allergies, linen slippers are better.

Anti slip and anti odor

For anti slip, if you value it more, you can choose PVC slippers. EVA material slippers are slightly less slip resistant than PVC, but they are odor resistant. Rubber materials have poor anti slip properties, some of which are combined with other materials, and their anti slip properties are also quite good. Linen is not suitable for touching water, so it is not within the range - but its anti slip performance is definitely not poor.

As for the sources of shoe odor, it was also mentioned earlier: issues with the shoes themselves (PVC, or the use of inferior materials), accumulation of skin tissue, fungi, bacteria, etc. on the feet, coupled with inadequate cleaning, the odor also arises.

Some slippers make a creaking sound when they come into contact with water after wearing them for a period of time, because the shoes are too soft or there is a gap in the middle of the shoes, which causes water to be sucked in. And the water sucked in may also smell. After taking a shower, adding the fragrance of shower gel may help you understand what it means to be both fragrant and smelly.

Except for PVC slippers, the three types of slippers mentioned above can all effectively prevent odor, especially linen slippers.

Usage and Cleaning

Using non PVC material slippers, the cleaning issue cannot be ignored. My own practice is to use two pairs of slippers, one for use in wet environments such as bathrooms and rainy days, and the other for use in the bedroom, for daily dry use. Dual use, clean and hygienic. When cleaning, they can also be separated separately.
